1. History of India and Indian National Movement

About 10 -12 questions are asked from this section every year. This subject has two parts.
1. History of India
2. Indian National Movement

The History of India subject contains the topics of Ancient History, Medieval History and Modern History  Modern history will have to pay more attention to the topics related to the Indian National Movement  Students should read Indian National Movement in very detailed form as most of the questions come from this topic .

4 to 6 questions can be asked from ancient history .

• Features of Buddhism and Jainism,
• Architecture of temple construction,
• States of South India in ancient times,

Medieval history can range  from 2 to 4 questions. These include
• Delhi Sultanate Period,

• Sufi movement,
• Ruler of Rajasthan,
• Major wars,
• Administration of major rulers,
• Arrival of European powers and The conflict between them is
all too important .

Students  for Modern History
• Fall of Mughal Empire,
• Rise of corporate rule in India,
• Causes of 1857 conflict,
• Conflict leaders,
• Company governance and change after 1857,
• Facts related to formation of Congress party ,
• Social movement and leaders associated with them
are important .

Timeline of events in Indian National Movement must be read so that there is a general knowledge of events  National level movements like Non-cooperation movement, Quit India movement etc. should be studied in a very detailed manner. One must remember every fact associated with Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. The Congress session and their presidency are very important. Reading history like a story makes it easy to remember.

2. Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World

Physical, social, economic geography of India and the World means that every dimension related to Geography is important. About 15 questions can come from this section. In the IAS Prelims exam, a lot of questions are asked from Indian Geography and this subject is also a little scientific so it is difficult to understand. All those topics are important in this section, which is important for the country of India in any way.

3. Indian Polity and Governance- Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy

From this section, about 10-15 questions can appear in IAS Prelims. Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc. This means that this section requires you to have complete knowledge of the Constitution of India. other than this

How constitution works,
• How laws are made,
• How the country
operates,
• How the government works, • Central and state government relations
etc. are also topics.

In the syllabus Panchayati Raj is written separately, so prepare the committees and their recommendations related to Panchayati Raj well. Constitutional provisions related to this should also be prepared properly.

Public  policy means what is the policy of the government for various subjects and what programs have been implemented by the government for its implementation.

Rights Issues  means the rights and issues related to the citizens of India. Such as

4. Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc

Each topic is very important in this section. Economic and Social Development means how India’s economic development has happened and what effect it has had on social development. The basic concept of sustainable development is very important. Many times its definition has been asked in the exam. Along with this, special events related to Sustainable Development in the world should be taken special care of. Poverty means what is the concept of Poverty in India and the world and what is the definition of Poverty Line etc.

Inclusion is  a new concept, meaning both Economic and Social Inclusion. Complete information should be kept about the schemes the Government of India is running for Financial and Social Inclusion. Demographics include population and many related statistics such as
• Employment Rate,
• Participation of Women in Work Force,
• Migration Data,
• Child Sex Ratios,
etc. are important.

Social Sector Initiatives  should formulate schemes run by the Central Government or any State Government. This topic should be read by linking it to current affairs. Newspaper and monthly current affairs magazine are the right medium for this. About 15–18 questions come from this section.

5. General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change

In this section questions from Environmental Science, Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change are asked. In the recent IAS Prelims exam, a lot of questions were asked from this section. Due to not having any standard text book, it is difficult to prepare this section because it has to be prepared from many sources. It should read Principles of Environment and Ecology, Concepts in Bio-diversity, Climate Change Phenomenon in Detail etc.
Also, bio-diversity hotspots, in-situ ex-situ conservation, concepts of global warming and other related concepts should be prepared. Held globally
• UNFCC summits,
• IPCC reports,
• India State of Forest Report,
• Niti Ayog’s environment and climate change related reports
Reading is compulsory. About 10 questions can come from this section so it cannot be omitted.

7. General Science 

Technology part is not written in General Science section, but questions are asked from it. UPSC treats technology related queries like current events. About 8 questions are asked from this section. Knowledge of Physics, Chemistry and Biology up to class 10th is sufficient to prepare this section. Also, facts related to Nuclear Energy, and Renewable Energy should be prepared.

The latest technological developments  should also be prepared in this section  . In this section, new innovations and innovations should also be prepared and on which basic principles they work, it is also very important to prepare.

Topics related to national security  are also asked in General Studies Paper I  such as questions about India’s missile program, technology and firepower of various missiles.

IAS Prelims General Studies II, popularly called IAS CSAT, is only qualifying and its numbers do not add to the merit of IAS Prelims but it is mandatory to pass. To pass this paper of 200 numbers, 66 numbers i.e. 33% number have to be brought.

Comprehension

Most of the questions in CSAT paper are asked from this section. Concentration is checked with comprehension and it is also seen how the candidate can read a Comprehension and understand the message given in it. After becoming IAS, you have to take any decision by reading very big files and policy documents and understanding them. There is no syllabus for this, it can be prepared only by practice.

This section examines the logical reasoning of IAS candidates. Testing logical thinking is very important. Only a logical mind can do the correct interpretation of a given data.

Decision making and problem solving

The highest expectation from an IAS officer is the correct decision making. The most accurate assessment and prevention of any problem, in a fair and logical manner, shows the quality of an IAS officer. To solve any problem, what is the most sustainable and most feasible solution can be tested in this section.

General Mental Ability

General Mental Ability (GMA) testing typically tests how a person learns, understands instructions, and solves problems. General mental ability tests include scales that measure specific constructs such as verbal, mechanical, numerical, social, and spatial ability.

Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency

This section is very important and questions are asked every year from it. Data Interpretation is very important for making the right policy, so it is also tested.
