• ‘Ancient India – Ancient India’ by RS Sharma (Old NCERT)  covers well the syllabus of UPSC IAS Prelims and you will find many questions that have been asked directly from this book.

• The history of medieval India by Satish Chandra (Old NCERT) is a more relevant book in the medieval history section as it explains the topics of medieval history of India well.

• Along with ‘A brief history of modern India’ of Spectrum Publication, Sujata Menon’s ‘Concise history of modern India’ book has good coverage of modern history syllabus for IAS Prelims exam.

• For the Indian Culture section, candidates should read the ‘facets of Indian culture’ of Spectrum Publication . Apart from this, they should also see the website of the Center for Cultural Resources and Training .

• Indian culture Cultural Resources and Training Center’s website  is updating his notes from some cultural activities and issues continue in the country and help to prepare accordingly.

• Older NCERT books are most preferred for the preparation of Indian Geography . Goh Cheng Leong’s ‘certificate physical and human geography’ is a better option for physical geography . While studying physical geography, students must see the atlas of Oxford School.

The books which are most recommended to be read for the preparation of Indian politics are ‘Indian polity’ composed by Laxmikant and ‘An introduction to the constitution of India’ by D.D.Basu . Along with the above mentioned standard books on Indian politics, IAS aspirants must read old NCERT books on Indian politics.

• For the basic principles and terminology of economics, NCERT books are sufficient for the preparation of IAS. It is compulsory to study macroeconomics from class 12th textbook as it contains the basic terminology of Indian economy which helps in understanding the growth and development of the country. • The most recommended books to read more on Indian economy are Ramesh Singh’s ‘Indian Economy’, Mishra and Puri’s ‘Indian Economy’ and Economic Survey (Economic Survey) etc.

• Most of the candidates in Analytical Reasoning section like RS Aggarwal’s book but they can also take help from MK Pandey’s Analytical Reasoning. RS Aggarwal has good coverage on various subjects but MK Pandey’s analysis and interpretation in the matter of comprehension is far more advanced and good. • General Studies Paper 2 Manual of MHE (CSAT): This book is based on the prescribed syllabus of the exam. Its content is according to the syllabus. The content is divided into seven broad sections based on the prescribed syllabus. All sections have different practice questions, which are good for exam.

R S. Sharma’s Ancient History (Old NCERT): This book gives extensive coverage of time periods and dynasties, but only the socio-cultural and religious view of each chapter is important and should be noted separately.

Art and Culture of Nitin Singhania: This book is important for prelims as well as mens. It is advisable to read the entire book at least once, as it has been written in very simple words keeping the examination in mind.

The modern history of Bipin Chandra (Old NCERT): This book of NCERT provides a brief introduction to the beginning of the modern period and the years of struggle. A good reading of the book from the examination point of view will help in preparing the summary of the subjects.

Rajiv Ahir’s The Spectrum of modern India: This book is compulsory for every candidate to read because this book is very useful for prelims as well as mens. In particular, the chapters on modern history for the freedom struggle are excellent. (1857–1947).

Politics in India since Independence (NCERT): This is a new NCERT book on political development after independence in India. It has written about administrative and political changes like Emergency, Punjab crisis and all the wars India has fought since independence.

Bipin Chandra’s India since Independence (Old NCERT): This is a very big book and this book advised to prepare notes on social and economic consolidation after independence and from some chapters written on constitution formation, consolidation of Princeley State and social changes. She goes.

Arjun Dev’s World History (Old NCERT): This NCERT book of class 12th has written in detail on all the topics affecting the world history affecting India, from world wars to cold war period.

Fundamentals of Physical Geography (NCERT): This is a very basic book for the preparation of some special topics like geographical phenomena and the specialties of physical geography of the world as written in the syllabus.

D.D. Basu’s Introduction to the Constitution of India: This book is most recommended for the preparation of the Constitution , Preamble and Fundamental Rights of the Indian Constitution. The reason is the unique approach of this book towards constitutional interpretation.

Laxmikant’s Governance in India: Subjects like the role of civil servants in democracy, transparency in administration and e-governance in society can be prepared from this book. It also provides detailed opinions on administrative reforms.

India Year Book: Only a few chapters on welfare schemes, education, health and non-governmental organizations can be read from this book to prepare notes on new schemes launched by the Government of India.

General Studies IAS Mains Paper 3:

Indian Economy of NCERT for 11th and 12th standard: As we have done the General Studies Paper of IAS Prelims. Books have been suggested for, for basic understanding of economics, the same books of NCERT will be read.

Ramesh Singh’s Indian Economy for Civil Services Examination: After making the basic foundation from the books of NCERT, the next level of preparation can be started from this book. In this, all the relevant subjects of the syllabus for the preparation of UPSC have been specially given.

Uma Kapila’s Indian Economy: This is an excellent source to read about the Indian economy since independence as it gives vivid issues of economic reforms undertaken in the early stages of the planning era.

Economic Survey and Fiscal Budget: By looking at the papers of the past year, it has been found that some questions are asked directly from the annual financial statement. Therefore, the main features of economic survey and budget must be read. But in this case, the candidates should be very selective because these resources are very big and complicated to understand.

India People and Economy (NCERT):   This book covers topics such as how the Indian physical environment affects human activities and how dependence on our primary resources is leading to development in various sectors of our economy. It covers Indian agriculture and traditions in a holistic manner, which makes it easy to understand.

ARC Report on Disaster Management: This report is the best tool to understand the current situation of disaster or crisis management in India. Apart from this, it also contains important information on the institutional mechanism for handling disaster. It is highly authentic and social mechanisms for disaster management can be suggested directly from here.

India Year Book: To prepare notes on new schemes launched by the Government of India, only a few special chapters related to welfare schemes, education, health, disaster management and internal security can be read from this book.

For Science and Technology: It is true that no such reading material is available for science and technology in the market for GS Paper III. Some publishers are also publishing books on this subject, but they are a waste of both time and money.

General Studies IAS Mains Paper 4:

IGNOU’s Reading Material for Ethics: This material is completely designed for students who are completely new to ethics but it also has the basics and ethics of ethics that matter.

Michael Sandel’s Justice: What’s the right thing to do ?:   This book gives real insight on morality and ethical behavior in human life. It can be used to answer basic questions like what is morality and how does it affect the world environment.

12th class NCERT Psychology book: Its utility is only till reading some special chapters like attitude, attitude, thought and perception.

G. Subba Rao’s Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude for Civil Services Examination: This is not a one-off book because it takes both effort and time to understand the subject. It gives you good examples in Indian context. .

Neeraj Kumar’s Lexicon for Ethics, Integrity & Aptitude for IAS General Studies: This book is meant to give a basic understanding of ethics and value system and fulfill the need to revise based on relevance in the main exam and make your answer the best.

Report of the Administrative Reforms Commission on Ethics: If a candidate wants to correct his argument from a logical stand, the recommendations of the Administrative Reforms Commission can help improve the conclusion of his answer.
